DIWALI - DEEPAWALI (DEEPAVALI)
Diwali or Deepawali comes twenty days after dussehra. It is celebrated in the memory of Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile. It is a festival of lights. It is celebrated all over India.

People clean their houses and get them white-washed. Bazars are well decorated. People buy sweets and toys. Children buy crackers. people send gifts to their friends and relatives.

At night people illuminate their houses with lights, earthen lamps and candles. They worship Goddess Lakshmi. Children let off crackers and fire-works and enjoy the fun. Some people keep the doors of their houses open. They believe that Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth, visits all the houses on this night. Some businessmen start their new account books on this day.
